Zoom Programme

Because of government restrictions, we are unable to fulfil our physical speaker programme. We are therefore embarking on talks by different speakers using the zoom digital platform. We aim to have a diversified range of historians, speaking on various subjects from medieval up to end of the Stuarts in the early 18th c. Tracy Borman, Nicola Tallis will feature amongst them. The programme will be done at monthly intervals so watch this space.

We aim to carry on our high standing from our physical programme of speakers over to this means of communication. We have enlisted a very capable member of our group, well versed in zoom presentation, to put on and supervise all aspects of Zoom.

Please note there will only be 100 tickets available for any talk so please book early to avoid disappointment. Demand will be high. All proceeds to the Friends of Sheffield Manor Lodge-a registered charity.

This year, Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her 70th year on the British throne—her Platinum Jubilee—by far the longest reign of any British monarch. Inspired by this momentous event, Tracy Borman’s latest book, Crown & Sceptre, explores the tumultuous history of the British monarchy.

With 1,000 years of royal history from 1066 to the present day, Domesday Book to Magna Carta, the Field of Cloth of Gold to Prince Harry’s wedding, the book tells the real story of this iconic institution. In this illustrated talk, Tracy will introduce some of her favourite monarchs and share a few of the secrets behind the crown’s remarkable survival.
