Sheffield manor lodge needs your support

The Friends of Sheffield Manor Lodge is a registered charity and local community group with the main aim of promoting the restoration, preservation, repair and maintenance of Sheffield Manor Lodge as a site of historical importance and architectural value for the benefit of the public. As well as this, we look for opportunities to advance education of the history of Sheffield and the Manor Lodge site. We are also winners of an “Angel” award by English Heritage in recognition of the time, effort and determination we gave to the rescue of Sheffield Manor Lodge.

We currently have over 340 members and we always welcome new members to the Friends. We rely heavily on our membership in order to undertake our charitable investment programme at Sheffield Manor Lodge, with just some of the improvements that our membership subscriptions allow us to make listed below:

What a membership starting at JUST £8 PER year supports:

Historic dresses and costumes for volunteers and the public to wear and enjoy, bringing Sheffield Manor Lodge history to life

Well maintained benches set around the site, from which you can see the wildflowers growing in the beautiful Manor Lodge meadows

Continuous maintenance and upkeep of the site, where the many historical structures and features need great care. With so many different elements to Sheffield Manor Lodge there are always bits to repair and fix or new ideas to make come true and we are ready to step in and help

What your membership, starting at just £8 per year, helps us to achieve:

  • Your membership subscriptions allow us to sponsor the annual ‘History Through The Ages Event’ at the Manor Lodge site, which is demonstrated in the picture alongside this text.

The history through the ages event is a re-enactment day from the 1100’s to World War Two. Medieval knights, English Civil War Roundheads and Cavaliers as well as many other different periods are represented. This is a hugely fun day out for all the Friends and other visitors with recreated dancing from historical periods, archery and battle axe throwing for all. This helps us meet our objective to educate the public at the site in an interactive and fun way.

  • Your membership helps to support our popular guest speaker programme, as we allocate extra funding to these events to get top class speakers to deliver these lectures. Our speakers are historians seen on TV such as Anna Whitelock and Tracy Borman. These well renowned speakers deliver excellent talks on our behalf which is hugely important for the Friends.
  • We have recently assembled a full replica Tudor Kitchen at the site which was funded by the Friends. Items for this included a kettle, ladle, sugar cutters, salt box, pestle and mortar, cauldron, pots, fish, a spit, cooking utensils and a fire basket. This will help to bring the site to life for visitors so they can see what a Tudor kitchen really looked like.
  • We have also purchased three benches and placed these at locations around the site for the benefit of visitors, as well as having funded a whole section of children’s foam padded jousting play equipment to be used on open days. Features that improve the site and bring joy to those who visit.
