Friends of Sheffield Manor Lodge have an important message to all local businesses in Sheffield and further afield. We are embarking on an exciting new chapter of our journey and we wish to invite you with us.

 

For many years now Friends of Sheffield Manor Lodge has been an organisation that focused on preserving a unique piece of Sheffield’s history. This has been achieved through bringing the community closer together with our great guest speaker talks in which we have shared a range of curious topics with history enthusiasts and everyone in our family of followers and supporters.

 

The recent dramatic changes to our lives inspired us to extend our circle beyond individual members and to invite local businesses to join our cause, share ideas and work together to come back stronger than we have ever been before.

WHO WE ARE? 

The Friends of Sheffield Manor Lodge is a registered charity organisation in Sheffield that seeks to promote the restoration, preservation, repair, and maintenance of Sheffield Manor Lodge as a site of historical importance and architectural value for the benefit of the public.

 

We look to increase education amongst members of the public in the history of this important Sheffield site and the Friends were proud to win an “Angel” award by English Heritage in recognition of time, effort and determination for the rescue of Sheffield Manor Lodge.

 

We are a registered UK charity (no. 1123901) and have over 350 members who champion Sheffield Manor Lodge.

WHAT WE DO?

 

  • We raise awareness of the work that is carried out to care for and maintain the Sheffield Manor Lodge site and actively fund raise to support the restoration of this historical site which is spread over four acres.
  • We support improvements to the Sheffield Manor Lodge site, such as with the establishment of the Tudor style gardens as well as adding benches and other features which complement the visitors’ experience. Our work is carried out alongside the site managers, Green Estate, with members of our organisation volunteering their time to support the site with events, activities and other educational programmes which are run on site.
  • We are well known for our guest speaker talk events which bring leading historians and writers from around the UK to Sheffield to deliver lectures on a wide range of historical topics through our quarterly programme of speaker events.
  • We also run a number of historical themed walks including guided talks of the Norfolk Heritage Trail and Sheffield Great Deer Park walk, which offers unique insights to areas of Sheffield’s history which are rich and often not widely known.

WHAT WE OFFER:

The Friends have over time built up a fantastic platform in terms of our members, online presence and social media following which is now at approx. 1500 followers. We understand that many local businesses are in a difficult position following the impact of the pandemic and we want to use our platform in order to assist them. Our business sponsorship scheme allows you to benefit from our community and digital presence.

Our company sponsors will gain access to many benefits, including:

  • Your hyperlinked logo appearing on the company sponsorship section of our website homepage
  • A mention in our company email newsletter to our 350+ members as well as a post on our Facebook page to our 1500 approx. followers which will explain what your local business is and what you do and will thank you for your support of the Friends of Sheffield Manor Lodge
  • For your business staff members, we will offer free participation in our online Zoom historical lectures, which usually require a donation or ticket to attend

Following the easing of the coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions when we restart our full programme of activities we will also offer, in addition to the above, your staff and any guests you wish to bring such as clients or family members being offered the chance to:

  • Attend one of our excellent quarterly guest speaker event talks with an amount of free tickets
  • A tour of the Sheffield Manor Lodge site with David Templeman, Elizabethan historian, author and national speaker, who can offer a unique and detailed historical insight into this crucial Sheffield landmark, which will be followed by complimentary refreshments held at the Sheffield Manor Lodge 
  • The ability the use this impressive and historical site to conduct your events and business meetings at a subsidised rate

If immediate sponsorship is not in your plans, then why not come and have a look round on a corporate tour, which we can arrange for you on appointment.

Much of our fundraising efforts were previously conducted in face to face settings, such as our guest speaker talk events and historical walks, both of which involved the gathering of crowds of our supporters to undertake these activities. Regrettably, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has resulted in us having to cease these operations, which was previously our vital fundraising activities. As part of us adapting to the new way of life we are proposing a company sponsorship scheme where for a fixed annual fee we can do our part to contribute to the growth and success of your business.

 

As part of our sponsorship scheme we are seeking an annual donation paid by a bank transfer from companies that wish to sponsor the Friends. We have outlined a list of benefits that our company sponsors will gain, aimed at helping to promote local businesses, as well as allowing team members of our sponsoring companies to gain the benefits of some fantastic activities, the number of which will be increased once the restrictions are lifted.

This is a unique site in so much as it is Mary Queen of Scots most used prison still standing. Please help save this very important part of Sheffield’s heritage.
